Soldier recovering from serious facial wound (Edward "EJ" Trautner)
An Indiana soldier, formerly of the Fond du Lac area, is recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., from a serious facial wound suffered on Aug. 23 while serving with the U.S. Army in Iraq.
Pfc. Edward "EJ" Trautner, 20, underwent reconstructive surgery on Wednesday. He is the son of Stacy Fellers, formerly of the Fond du Lac area and now of Valparaiso, Ind., and has many relatives living in the Fond du Lac area.
He was shot in the face while on patrol in Baghdad and was initially taken to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany for medical treatment before being transferred to Walter Reed on Aug. 27. At the time he was wounded, Trautner was serving as a gunner in a Humvee.
