Bennington native earns Bronze Star

BENNINGTON — A Bennington native has been awarded the Army's Bronze Star for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of his duty in Iraq.

Master Sgt. David W. Long, 44, whose home is now in Swanton, is a battalion master gunner, 1st Battalion, 172nd Armor Division of the Vermont Army National Guard.

The medal was awarded for Long's performance from June 2005 to June 2006 as a combat administrator, master gunner and battle captain.
