Student veterans honored
When ROTC Cadet Tom Phelps speaks, it's hard to tell just where he got his distinctive accent.
The 28-year-old Pitt biology student has an amalgamation of regional dialects from living all over the United States and Europe -- first as the son in an Air Force family and later as an Army staff sergeant. Phelps spent Sept. 11 on an Army base in Vilsack, Germany, already a year into his eight-year tour of duty.
"I just wanted to do something right here, right now," Phelps said. "I wanted to follow my dad and serve my country."
