Army offering re-elistment bonus of up to $33,500

Above: Army Chief of Staff Gen. George W. Casey Jr. administers the re-enlistment oath to 124 soldiers at Camp Victory, Iraq, on August 11th.

The Army is making a year-end push to re-enlist soldiers in priority specialties and those scheduled to leave active duty within the next few weeks.

Bonuses for these soldiers range from $6,500 to $33,500.

The biggest bonuses are aimed at soldiers whose terms of service expire before Oct. 1...

The re-enlistment mission for 2007 is 62,200 soldiers. Through July, the most recent reporting period, 56,951 soldiers have re-enlisted, most of them for some kind of bonus or assignment option.

To qualify for a bonus, as with the other retention incentive programs, soldiers must have 17 months to 14 years of service, and agree to extend their careers by three, four, five or six years.
