New Army Reserve recruiting program shields some recruits from deployment up to 4 years
A new Army Reserve recruiting program shields non-prior service applicants from being deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan while they complete their college degrees.
Effective April 1, the Army Reserve Education Career Stabilization program gives qualified applicants up to four years at home after completing basic training. The amount of time soldiers are exempt from deployment depends on the length of enlistment and unit priority.
However, the soldiers would not be exempt from a new federal mobilization under presidential authority.
