Matthew M. Murchison dies 'of wounds suffered when the vehicle he was in struck an improvised explosive device'

A roadside bomb in Baghdad has killed a Missouri soldier, the Department of Defense said Monday.

Killed by the blast on Saturday was Pfc. Matthew M. Murchison, 21, of Independence. He was in a vehicle when the bomb went off, the Pentagon said.

Murchison served with the 720th Military Police Battalion's 127th MP Company. The unit's home station is in Hanau, Germany.
