BAGHDAD - A U.S. soldier died of wounds he suffered when his unit was hit by a roadside bomb then came under small arms attack in eastern Baghdad on Saturday, the U.S. military said on Sunday. Two U.S. soldiers were killed outright in the attack.
BAGHDAD - The bodies of 11 people were found in different areas of Baghdad on Sunday, the Interior Ministry said.
AIN AL-TAMUR - The bodies of six people, including a member of the local city council, were found shot and tortured in the town of Ain al-Tamur, about 75 km (50 miles) west of Kerbala, south of Baghdad, police said.
SUWAYRA - Gunmen killed an Iraqi translator in a drive-by shooting near his house in the town of Suwayra, 40 km (25 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.
NEAR KUT - An off-duty Iraqi soldier was killed in a drive-by shooting near the city of Kut, 170 km (100 miles) southeast of Baghdad, police said.
BALAD - Police found the body of a female non-government organisation worker in an orchard in the town of Balad, around 90 km (50 miles) north of Baghdad, police said. She had been shot.
YATHRIB - Gunmen at a fake checkpoint kidnapped Salim Mohammed, a member of the Yathrib city council east of Balad, police said.
