Air Force: Medevac flights up nearly 50% in May

Air Force medical evacuation flights carried nearly 50 percent more critical patients in May than compared to the month before, according to the Air Force.

In May, the service flew 1,066 patients, including 213 critical patients out of the Iraqi and Afghanistan areas of operations. During April, 1,046 wounded or sick service members and civilians, including 146 critical patients, were flown out of the war zones.

In some cases, one patient may have been counted twice because the patient flew on multiple flights.
