Security Summary: May 6, 2007

Muqdadiya- Unknown gunmen on Sunday shot and killed a mosque Imam in al-Maudadiya district, 100 km northeast of Baghdad, a police source said.

Khalis- Unknown gunmen on Sunday shot dead a member of Khalis local council in Diala province, 57 km northeast of Baghdad, a police source said.

Baghdad- Iraqi police patrols on Sunday found 25 unknown bodies dumped in different parts of Baghdad, an interior ministry source said.

Baghdad- The U.S. army said on Sunday eight U.S. service members were killed and five more were wounded in three separate incidents in Baghdad and Diala province, 57 km northeast of the Iraqi capital.

Baghdad– An Iraqi police officer was killed by unidentified gunmen inside his home in the western Baghdad neighborhood of al-Jihad on Sunday, an Iraqi police source said.

Diala– Diala police chief Ghanim al-Qurayshi survived an attempt on his life on Sunday when a sniper missed him and shot one of his bodyguards, an Iraqi police source said.

Diala – A gunman was killed and 11 others, including three civilians, were wounded in clashes on Sunday between gunmen who attacked the house of a leading member of the Sunni Iraqi Islamic Party and his guards in central Muqdadiya district, a police source said.

Haditha- Clashes broke out on Sunday afternoon between gunmen and U.S. troops in the western Anbar city of Haditha, eyewitnesses said.

Falluja– Six unidentified bodies were found in the city of Falluja by Iraqi police patrols on Sunday, an Iraqi police source said.

Falluja- Unknown gunmen on Sunday shot dead a former security officer in Falluja, 45 km west of Baghdad, a police source said.

Kirkuk- Unknown gunmen on Sunday shot and killed a school prinicpal in southwestern Kirkuk, 250 km northeast of Baghdad, after armed groups threatened to kill teachers if they kept working, a security source said.

Missan- A Missan oil company employee was killed and two others were wounded when a land mine exploded near them in eastern Missan, 380 km southeast of Baghdad, a company source said on Sunday.

Samarra- Two car bombs driven by suicide bombers exploded on Sunday near Samarra police station, killing and injuring an unidentified number of people, a police source said on Sunday.

Baghdad- Iraqi security forces arrested 37 suspected militants in several areas in Baghdad during the past 24 hours under the Baghdad law-imposing plan, the Baghdad operations command said on Sunday.

Baghdad- At least two people were killed and eight more were wounded on Sunday in a car bomb blast in western Baghdad, a police source said.

Baghdad- At least 30 people were killed and 80 more were wounded on Sunday when a car bomb went off near a popular market in al-Bayaa district, southwestern Baghdad, a police source said.

Baghdad- U.S. choppers raided on Sunday some parts of the Shiite Sadr City in eastern Baghdad, local residents said.

Hilla- At least 13 people were wounded on Sunady in a blast in north of Hilla, 100 km south of Baghdad, a police source said.

Diala- Iraqi security forces, backed by U.S. troops, launched a security operation in Saadiya district, Diala province, in a search for a missing local council member, a police source said on Sunday.
