CNO Mullen: Navy to focus more on sea deployments


NORFOLK, Va. — The Navy is in the process of becoming more “sea-centric,” which could mean more money for those who stay at sea longer, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Mullen told sailors here.

Right now, many sailors spend about 70 percent of the time on shore versus 30 percent at sea, Mullen noted. He’d like the split to be 50-50, he said Tuesday in an address to about 1,000 sailors.

Mullen added that pay increases are being considered for sailors who stay at sea for longer periods of time.
