Security Summary: May 2, 2007

Baghdad- Iraqi police patrols on Wednesday found 30 unknown bodies dumped in different parts of Baghdad, an interior ministry source said.

Baghdad- At least four people were killed and 13 more were wounded on Wednesday evening in a mortar attack in southern Baghdad, local residents said.

Baghdad- At least six people were killed and 45 others wounded on Wednesday in the Shiite Sadr City in eastern Baghdad, a police source said.

Basra- At least one civilian was killed in an explosive charge blast in western Basra, while a child was wounded in a separate incident when a Katyusha rocket landed on her house in the southern Iraqi city, a police source said on Wednesday.

Diwaniya- An explosive charge went off near a U.S. vehicle patrol in Diwaniya city, 180 km south of Baghdad, damaging a patrol vehicle, a police source said.

Hilla- Two teachers and a student were wounded on Wednesday when mortar rounds landed on their school north of Hilla, a police source said.

Basra- The Multi-National Forces said on Wednesday two gunmen were wounded after they clashed with an MNF vehicle patrol overnight in the southern Iraqi city of Basra.

Dujail- Iraqi and U.S. forces killed eight gunmen and detained two more in a security crackdown in Dujail town, 60 km north of Baghdad, a security source said on Wednesday.

Baghdad- At least three people were killed and 15 more wounded on Wednesday in a mortar attack in Mahmodiyah, south of Baghdad, a police source said.

Hilla- At least 11 civilians were killed and another was wounded in an explosion in a region south of Baghdad, a source from the Babel police department said on Wednesday.

Baghdad– A U.S. soldier died of non-battle causes, the first in May, the U.S. army said on Wednesday.
