Report: New security crackdown starts in Diyala province

Baaquba, Apr 13, (VOI)- Iraqi security forces, backed by U.S. troops, has started on Friday a new security crackdown in central Iraq, a security source said.

"Iraqi security forces, backed by U.S. troops, has started today a wide-scale security operation in Diala province," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

The source added "the forces have positioned many checkpoints, manned vehicle patrols and started raids in many areas in Diala province."

The new plan, he pointed out, aims to uproots all armed groups in the province after receiving reliable intelligence that gunmen fled the capital Baghdad to areas in Diala.

Baaquba, capital city of Diala province, is 57 km northeast of Baghdad.
