Michael Ledsome laid to rest

He will be remembered for his smile and great sense of humor. Tuesday, family and friends laid to rest Marine Corporal Michael Craig Ledsome.

Ledsome, known as Craig to those close to him, died on Nov. 25 fighting in Iraq. The funeral service was held at the Cook-Walden Funeral home in North Austin.

A group of motorcycle riders known as The Patriot Guard came to pay their respects along with dozens of friends and family members.

One friend tells KXAN Ledsome joined the Marines to secure a future for his two-year-old son.

"These guys have taken the ultimate sacrifice for their country. It's hard for the families, hard for the country," Colby McClelland with the Patriot Guard Riders said.

Ledsome moved to Austin in 2000. He was born in Brownwood, Texas. This Sunday, more than 200 people attended a service in Brownwood.

Ledsome leaves behind his wife, Magan and a 2-year-old son, Caelub.

You can help support his young family this weekend. The Balcones Country Club, where Ledsome worked as an assistant golf pro, is hosting a benefit golf tournament. It starts at noon this Saturday.

The cost is $35 to play. They hope to raise $20,000 for his wife and for his son's college fund.
