Angel Ramirez remembered
BAKERSFIELD - The Pentagon has identified a soldier killed 10 days ago in Iraq as the son of a Bakersfield family.
Sgt. Angel DeJesus Lucio Ramirez, 22, was one of three soldiers killed Nov. 11 in Ar Ramadi when a bomb exploded near the vehicle in which he was riding.
Ramirez is survived by a wife, who is a resident of Germany. His parents are Ignacio and Marina Lucio of Bakersfield. He leaves behind two brothers and two sisters, all of Bakersfield.
His funeral is set for Friday at the Veterans Cemetery in the Westwood area of Los Angeles.
Ramirez and his family moved to Bakersfield from Los Angeles about three years ago, his father said. Ramirez and his three older siblings were born in Mexico. Ramirez was just months away from obtaining his U.S. citizenship, his father said.
He was on his second tour of duty in Iraq, and was scheduled to return home in March.
