Scholarship to honor fallen Marine's memory (Ryan E. Miller)

Lance Cpl. Nathan Chalfant kneels by the casket of fellow Marine Lance Cpl. Ryan Miller after interment at Resurrection Cemetery last week.

Less than a week after the funeral of Marine Lance Cpl. Ryan Miller, nearly $6,000 has been raised for a scholarship fund in his name.

And the donations continue to roll in, St. Francis DeSales High School principal Dan Garrick said this week.

"It's pretty amazing," said Garrick of the $5,955 raised as of Tuesday morning.

Miller was killed Sept. 3 by a roadside bomb while on assignment with K Company, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines in Iraq's Anbar province. He was buried last week at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lewis Center with full military honors. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received in battle.
