Iowa soldier's funeral set for Saturday (William Thorne)
The wife of a U.S. Army soldier killed in Iraq said he would "do anything to make my dreams come true."
Pfc. William "Willy" Thorne, 26, of Hospers, was killed last Thursday when his Humvee was hit by a roadside bomb in Baghdad. He was a combat soldier in the 4th Infantry Division based at Fort Hood, Texas.
Thorne's wife also is in the Army.
Pfc. Corey Jasper Thorne, 26, was stationed in Iraq, but in a different part of the country. She was home on leave when her husband was killed. He also had requested leave, but was denied.
During a news conference in Hospers on Tuesday, Corey Thorne said her husband was "just the best man anybody could ever dream of."
She said she will be given more time and will not be required to return to Iraq. She said it is uncertain whether she will finish her three-year enlistment, which ends in July 2008.
Willy Thorne's funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Reformed Church in Orange City. Burial will be in Hospers Cemetery.
Corey Thorne said he was a big fan of the Detroit Lions. They also camped, hiked and watched movies together.
They were married in 2001. They enlisted in the Army together in May 2005 and reported for duty in August 2005 with the dream of saving enough money to adopt children. They last saw each other on Jan. 25 at Fort Hood.
