Baghdad - Coalition forces have handed over control of Iraq's armed forces command to the government. Some figures on the Iraqi security forces as of August:

Total trained and equipped Iraqi security forces: 277 600

Ministry of defence forces:

Army operational personnel: 113 200
Air wing operational personnel: 700
Coastal defence force operational personnel: 1 100
Total: 115 000
