Troy (Justin T.) Sanders dies 'in a non-combat related incident'
A 22-year-old soldier from Watson died in Iraq, a spokesman for the U.S. Army at Fort Hood, Texas, said Tuesday.
Pvt. Justin T. Sanders, died Aug. 29 in Taji, Iraq, of wounds he received in a noncombat-related incident that occurred earlier in the day, Army spokeswoman Brandy Gill said.
She declined to comment on the nature or source of his injuries. The matter is still under investigation and no further details can be released at this time, Gill said.
Sanders was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, according to a Department of Defense news release.
He joined the Army in August 2005 and arrived in Iraq in November 2006, Gill said.
Sanders’ military awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge and the Expert Weapons Qualification Badge.
