Perspective: With troops overseas, Bragg streets are quiet

One morning last week on Ardennes Street, the loudest sound was the chirping of birds.

It was 7:25, and the birds should have been drowned out by soldiers. At this time of day, there usually are units of paratroopers running five abreast in each direction, unit flags flapping and feet pounding the pavement. As they run, the soldiers chant the cadences of airborne life...

These days, the soldiers aren't home.
