Eric D. Cottrell dies 'of wounds suffered when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device'
Staff Sgt. Eric D. Cottrell, 39, of Pittsview, was one of three U.S. Soldiers who died on Aug. 13, in Qayyarah, Iraq, from wounds suffered when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device.
They were assigned to the 5th Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.
Pittsview is located in Russell County about 22 miles north of Eufaula on U.S. 431.
