Report: IAF preparing for Iran strike

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) has been training on long-range flights, including refueling in mid-flight, in preparation for potential strikes against Iranian nuclear targets.

The training program has been taking place for some time but has only been released for publication Friday, the Ma'ariv daily reported.

Intelligence assessments received by the defense establishment concur that once Iran passes the point of no return in its nuclear efforts, the entire Middle East will enter a frantic nuclear armament race. Egypt and Saudi Arabia are expected to take the lead should such a scenario become reality.

Target Tehran as Israeli Air Force 'trains for long-distance missions'

Israel's air force is training for long distance missions, after agreeing to a timetable with the United States for sanctions against Iran's nuclear program to work, a report said on Friday. Israel's Maariv daily, which said the military censor had authorized its report, said the training included long-range strikes as well as in-flight refueling.

The newspaper said Israel and the United States would hold joint assessments at the end of the year on the effectiveness of economic sanctions against Iran...

On January 7, Israel denied a report in Britain's Sunday Times newspaper that it had drawn up plans to destroy Iran's enrichment facility with a tactical nuclear strike.

Quoting several Israeli military sources, the London paper said Israel had drawn up plans to destroy the centrifuges at Natanz using low-yield "bunker-busting" bombs. It quoted the sources as saying two of Israel's air-force squadrons were training to use the weapons for a single strike.
