Security Summary: May 10, 2007

A Sunni militant group allied to Al-Qaeda today posted an Internet video of what it said was the execution of nine Iraqi soldiers and policemen

Falluja- Unknown gunmen on Thursday shot and killed a member of Falluja local council outside his house at al-Mualemin neighborhood in central Falluja, 45 km west of Baghdad, a source from the council said.

Thi-Qar- Police forces on Thursday freed two captives in two separate operations in the southern Iraqi province of Thi-Qar, a police source said.

Falluja- Mortar shells were fired Thursday onto an Iraqi army base in the western Iraqi city of Falluja, a security source said.

Baghdad- A U.S. army base came under a mortar attack in southwestern Baghdad with no reports of casualties, a police source said on Thursday.

Kirkuk- At least three civilians were wounded on Thursday when an explosive charge went off in Kirkuk, 250 km northeast of Baghdad, while five suspected militants were detained during a security crackdown in the city, a security source said.

Baghdad- The U.S. army said three gunmen were killed and four suspected militants were arrested on Thursday morning during raids in Sadr city.

Basra- Multi-National forces in southern Iraq said on Thursday that they injured a gunman in clashes with an armed group in the southern Iraqi city of Basra city near to the Iranian Consulate.
