Robert Dunham remembered

The wife of a Fort Gordon sergeant who was killed in Iraq on Thursday remembers him as a good father who had an unforgettable smile.

On Sunday afternoon, Kimberly Dunham had many family and friends in her Hephzibah home offering her support and comfort.

Mrs. Dunham said she was doing her best to stay emotionally solid just days after receiving news that her husband, Sgt. 1st Class Robert E. Dunham, 36, a 19-year Army veteran, had been killed while riding in a vehicle that was struck by an explosive near Baghdad.

Mrs. Dunham said she met her husband while they were stationed in South Korea. She was in the Army four years.

The Baltimore native was the father of five sons, ages 3, 5, 10, 14 and 15.

The couple shared the gift of Christian music, she said. The two met while participating in a church choir in South Korea. He was a skilled pianist and organist while she directed the choir, she said.

Though the children are understandably upset by this tragedy, "they are holding up," she said in a whisper.

"He was a family man and a man of God," she said.
