May 28, 2007:

BAGHDAD - Police said they recovered the bodies of 33 people from various parts of Baghdad in the past 24 hours.

BAGHDAD - A truck bomb killed 24 people and wounded 90 others near the Sunni Abdul Qadir al-Gailani mosque in central Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Three civilians were killed and 10 wounded by a car bomb in Zaafarniya district in south eastern Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Eight people were killed and 35 wounded when mortar rounds landed in the Shi'ite district of Karrada in central Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Two civilians were killed two others were wounded by roadside bomb in the Baayaa district in southwestern Baghdad, police said.

MOSUL - Four policemen were killed by a car bomb in Mosul, police said.

MOSUL - Police found the bodies of three men in different parts of Mosul, police said.

BAGHDAD - At least two people were killed and six wounded by a car bomb in the Karrada district in central Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Four people were killed and 29 wounded by a bomb in a restaurant in the Bab al-Muadham district of north-central Baghdad, police said.

UWAIREG - The bodies of 12 men were found dumped in a large hole in the Uwaireeg area south of Baghdad, police said. All the victims had gunshot wounds and showed signs of torture.

KIRKUK - A roadside bomb wounded five policemen in the northern oil city of Kirkuk, police said.

HAWIJA - A roadside bomb wounded four Iraqi soldiers near Hawija, 70 km (40 miles) southwest of Baghdad, police said.

BAQUBA - One person was killed and 11 wounded by a mortar round in Baquba, police said.

BAGHDAD - The Iraqi army killed an insurgent and arrested 45 others during the past 24 hours in different parts of Iraq, the Defence Ministry said.

BAGHDAD - A sniper killed a female student near in al-Mustansiriya University in northeastern Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen killed three policemen and wounded seven in the Fadhil district of central Baghdad, police said.

BAQUBA - The U.S. military said U.S. and Iraqi troops had raided a suspected al Qaeda prison camp near Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad, on Sunday and freed 41 men.

NEAR BAIJI - Hamad al-Jouburi, the head of a regional "salvation council" set up to fight al-Qaeda, said gunmen attacked his brother's two houses and abducted four of his sons and set the houses on fire in a village near Baiji, 180 km (110 miles) north of Baghdad. Earlier, local officials said gunmen killed the four sons of Jouburi's sister.

BAGHDAD - A security detainee died on Saturday in Camp Cropper, a U.S. detention facility in southern Baghdad, the U.S. military said. It said the likely cause of death was complications from diabetes.

ANBAR - U.S. forces detained nine suspected insurgents in raids against suspected al Qaeda insurgents in northern Mosul and western Anbar province, the U.S. military said.

RAMADI - A car bomb in a busy market killed seven people and wounded 12 on Sunday in the western outskirts of Ramadi, 110 km (70 miles) west of Baghdad, a hospital source said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb killed one person and wounded nine others in eastern Baghdad on Sunday, police said.

NAHRAWAN - Two people were killed and one other was wounded in a mortar attack on Sunday in Nahrawan, 30 km (20 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - At least 23 people were killed and 68 others wounded when a powerful bomb in a parked bus exploded in central Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - At least 18 people were killed and 41 wounded when a car bomb exploded in a busy market of a mainly Shi'ite neighbourhood in southwestern Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen dressed as police abducted a group of Westerners from inside a finance ministry building in Baghdad, police and witnesses said. British officials later said five Britons had been kidnapped.

DIYALA PROVINCE - Two U.S. soldiers were killed when their helicopter went down under enemy fire in Diyala Province on Monday, the U.S. military said. Another six soldiers were killed when roadside bombs hit their vehicles while they were on their way to the crash site.

BAGHDAD - Two U.S. soldiers were killed when their patrol was hit by a roadside bomb in southern Baghdad on Monday, the U.S. military said.

BAQUBA - The bodies of 21 people were found shot dead in two different districts of Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

SUWAYRA - Police retrieved the bodies of five men, two of whom were decapitated, from the Tigris river in the town of Suwayra, 40 km south of Baghdad, police said.

SHIRQAT - Gunmen killed two policemen and wounded three in the town of Shirqat, 80 km (50 miles) south of Mosul, police said.

SHIRQAT - A roadside bomb targeting a police patrol killed two policemen and wounded three others on Monday in Shirqat, police said.

KIRKUK - Gunmen killed Mahmoud Hakim Mustafa, the editor-in-chief of Hawadith weekly newspaper, on Monday near his home in the northern city of Kirkuk, 250 km (50 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - U.S. forces detained 14 suspected insurgents, including the suspected al-Qaeda leader of a violent western Baghdad neighbourhood, during operations in the capital, Mosul and Taji, the U.S. military said.
