Anthony Schober's grandparents speak out


The tragedy of war looms inside the Rohnert Park home of Robert and Leona Asper.

The grief has not yet come, but the burden of loss is waiting there, threatening.

Their grandson, Army Sgt. Anthony Schober, has disappeared in Iraq, apparently after being captured by al Qaeda insurgents during a weekend ambush.

"We're just sitting here waiting," Robert Asper said Wednesday. "We're all in shock that this happened. There's always hope, but these al Qaeda guys don't seem to give anybody back."

Schober, 23, who lived with his grandparents and attended elementary school in Rohnert Park in the 1990s, is a member of the 10th Mountain Division's Company D, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment out of Fort Drum,
