John Borbonus reported killed in Iraq

BOISE — A third Idaho serviceman has died in Iraq in less than a week.

John Borbonus, a 2005 graduate of Boise High School, died Thursday in an explosion, his mother, Maggie Borbonus, confirmed Friday.

According to the 19-year-old soldier’s MySpace.com page, he enjoyed “spelunking, most sports with a board, and anything that goes fast.”

His death comes days after the loss of military servicemembers from Caldwell and Burley.

Maggie Borbonus told the Idaho Press-Tribune that she had received a flood of phone calls about her son’s death and that an Army liaison officer would visit her today and release more information to the media after that time.

Information on his Army unit was not immediately available.

KTVB-TV in Boise reported that Borbonus’ father, Hans, owns Falcon Crest Golf Course and Cloverdale Nursery and that John was the couple’s only child, who would have turned 20 next month.
