FOB Loyalty expands landing zone for 'surge' helicopters

The landing zone at a strategically important U.S. base in Baghdad has been expanded to accommodate more helicopters, officials said.

Forward Operating Base Loyalty is home to some of the troops involved in the “surge,” an addition of nearly 30,000 U.S. troops in Baghdad. Making sure they are able to move between bases is of essence to the plan, and helicopter travel is one of the most common ways of moving troops and material.
