Security Summary: March 13, 2007

Stryker Soldiers with Company B, 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, roll through a village en route to Baqouba today, part of 700 reinforcements being sent to the area.

BAGHDAD - The bodies of 17 people were found in different parts of Baghdad, a police source said.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen opened fire on the car of a judge named Omar Abdul Nabi in Karrada in central Baghdad, killing him and two other people and wounding one person, a police source said.

MOSUL - Police said four bodies were found in Mosul. That was in addition to 13 bodies with gunshot wounds found during the previous 48 hours in the northern city, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

MOSUL - Five mortars landed on central Mosul, killing one person and wounding four, police said.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen killed four worshippers and wounded another in a drive-by shooting as they left a small Sunni Muslim mosque in Risala in southern Baghdad, police sources said. Another police source put the death toll at five.

NEAR KUT - The bodies of two people were retrieved from a small waterway near the city of Kut, police said. The victims had gunshot wounds and bore signs of torture.

DIWANIYA - Police found the body of a man, with gunshot wounds and signs of torture, in the southern city of Diwaniya, 180 km south of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - A Katyusha rocket landed on the commercial street of Karrada in central Baghdad, killing two people and wounding two others, police said. Another police source put the death toll at four, with four wounded.

BAGHDAD - Iraqi army troops killed two insurgents and arrested 58 in the previous 24 hours in different parts of Iraq, police said.

BAGHDAD - A total of 15 bodies with gunshot wounds were found on Monday in different districts of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen opened fire at a police vehicle killing three policemen and wounding two in Zayuna district in eastern Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb killed one person and wounded two people in northern Baghdad, police said.

KIRKUK - Gunmen opened fire at a police patrol, killing one policeman and wounding three in the northern city of Kirkuk, 250 km (150 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

ISKANDARIYA - Gunmen killed Hatam Muhsin, the general director of mechanical industries company, in the town of Iskandariya, 40 km (25 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

KUT - Gunmen killed an Iraqi translator working for the U.S. military on Monday in the city of Kut, 170 km southeast of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Police arrested Ahmed Faraj and Ali Jassim, leaders in the 20th Revolutionary Brigades insurgent group, in Abu Ghraib district in the western outskirts of Baghdad, said Brigadier Abdul-Kareem Khalaf, Interior Ministry spokesman.

NEAR KIRKUK - A roadside bomb killed four firefighters on Monday when it exploded near their vehicle in a town near Kirkuk, police said.
