Perspective: Contact lenses a danger in the desert


Soldiers are forbidden from wearing contact lenses in the Iraq war zone, but some still do...

“Most people think they can get away with it, [but] the risks are so much greater here,” said Maj. Kristian L. Dugger, an optometrist with 206th Area Support Medical Company, according to a recent Army press release.

A simple eye infection can mean time lost on the job because of blurred vision from treatment or, at worst, permanent vision loss.
