Karl O. Soto-Pinedo killed by small arms fire


A memorial service in Schweinfurt, Germany, is pending for a soldier from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team who was killed last week in Iraq.

Staff Sgt. Karl O. Soto-Pinedo, 22, was killed Feb. 27 by small-arms fire while on patrol in Baghdad with other members of the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, based in Schweinfurt.

Soto-Pinedo was from San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was identified by the Department of Defense on Monday.

He is the 23rd soldier from the Dagger Brigade to be killed in hostile action during its deployment to Iraq.
