Jeffrey D. Brisson dies of injuries from I.E.D.

He joined the Army in 2004, came to Alaska in the summer of 2005 and last year married an Anchorage girl, Rebecca Roberts.

Tuesday night, Rebecca Bisson, 19, sat in her Midtown kitchen and looked at pictures of her husband on the computer. Her mother packed a bag. Bisson was headed to San Diego to her husband's funeral. She clicked through shots of Jeffrey in his sky-diving gear, and the two of them in the summertime with his son, Andrew, 3, who lives with his mother in California.

Just a few weeks ago, she said, they'd chatted for hours on the Internet and talked on the phone about unpacking a sky-diving rig, the black Lab he'd bought her, and a cruise they wanted to take.

"I was planning he was going to come home and I was just going to dote on him," she said.

Rebecca met Jeffrey on MySpace in the summer of 2005. He proposed to her in the fall. They were married on Flattop last April. She felt too young to be a widow, she said. She wasn't sure what to do next.

"I wanted to be a wife, but that kind of got cut short," she said.
