BAGHDAD - Iraqi and U.S. troops detained a senior militia leader in Baghdad's Shi'ite Kadhimiya district on Friday, the U.S. military said. A statement said he was wanted on suspicion of running a murder and kidnapping cell, but did not give further details.

BAGHDAD - Mortar rounds killed seven people and wounded 20 in Baghdad's western Adhamiya district on Saturday night as a curfew went into effect ahead of Sunday's scheduled verdict in the trial against Saddam Hussein for crimes against humanity.

UDHAIM - A roadside bomb struck a convoy of special guards of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, killing five and wounding two more in the town of Udhaim, 100 km (60 miles) north of Baghdad, on Thursday evening, a source from the presidential special guard said. Talabani is on a visit to France.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen in a car opened fire and killed two people and wounded five others in western Baghdad, police said.

SUWAYRA - A bicycle bomb exploded in a crowded market in Suwayra 40 km (25 miles) south of Baghdad, wounding 11 people, police said.

DIWANIYA - Four gunmen in a car shot dead a civilian in central Diwaniya, 180 km (112 miles) south of Baghdad. Police arrested the perpetrators, Diwaniya chief police brigadier Abdul Khaliq al-Badri said.

BAGHDAD - Special Iraqi Army forces, with coalition advisors, detained three suspects during an operation in Sadr City to capture the leader and members of an illegal armed group, the U.S military said in a statement.
