Kenneth Eric Bostic slain by sniper

A soldier assigned to Fort Polk, the sprawling training camp in Vernon Parish, has died in the War on Terror, the post has announced.

Sgt. Kenneth Eric Bostic, 21, of Hawthorne, Nev., died Monday in Baghdad, Iraq, the fort said in a release that cited the Pentagon.

Bostic was killed by sniper fire while conducting checkpoint operations with Iraqi National Police. He was a military policeman assigned to the 204th Military Police Company, 519th Military Police Battalion, 1st Combat Support Brigade (Provisional), Mission Enhancement. He joined the Army in June 2003 and arrived at Fort Polk that November.

Bostic’s awards include a posthumous Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Combat Action Badge.

Bostic is survived by his mother Patricia Thyne, father James Bostic and brother Dwayne Bostic.
