Wreckage from a car bombing in Baghdad yesterday

BAGHDAD - Two officials of Iraq's U.S.-sponsored security court, the Central Criminal Court of Iraq, were killed when a bomb planted next to the fuel tank of their car exploded as they crossed a bridge near the court in central Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said. The officials were not named.

BAGHDAD - Eight bodyguards from the political movement of secular Shi'ite former prime minister Iyad Allawi were arrested by police at one of Allawi's offices in the mainly Sunni Baghdad district of Aadhamiya, police and Allawi aides said.

RAMADI - Two suicide car bomb attacks on police positions north of Ramadi killed five policemen and wounded three, police Colonel Abdul Jabaar al-Nimrawi said. Ramadi, capital of Anbar province, sees intense activity by Sunni Arab insurgents.

BAGHDAD - Thirty-five bodies were found dumped in different districts of Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said. Most had gunshot wounds in the head. Earlier the source put the day's figure at 10 but a further 25 were found later.

MOSUL - The bodies of nine people, including a policeman, were found in different districts of Mosul, police said. One of the victims was burned and others had gunshot wounds.

BAGHDAD - Clashes between police and gunmen killed a policeman and wounded three others in southern Doura district of Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said.

ANBAR PROVINCE - A U.S. soldier died on Tuesday due to wounds sustained from enemy action while operating in Anbar Province, the U.S. military said on Wednesday.

BAGHDAD - A car bomb targeting a police patrol killed five people, including a policeman, and wounded seven, including two policemen, in central Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said.

FALLUJA - Police found the bodies of five people, with gunshot wounds and bearing signs of torture, in and around the Sunni stronghold city of Falluja, 50 km (35 miles) west of Baghdad, police said.

MOSUL - Gunmen killed a policewoman in the northern city of Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

MOSUL - A roadside bomb targeting a police patrol wounded two policemen in Mosul, police said.

BAIJI - A roadside bomb exploded near the convoy of the security advisor of the Governor of Sallaheddine Province in the oil city refinery of Baiji, 180 km (112 miles) north of Baghdad. He was unharmed but two of his guards were wounded, police said.

NEAR SAMARRA - Gunmen kidnapped a judge on Tuesday while he was heading to his work near Samarra, 100 km (60 miles) north of Baghdad, police said on Wednesday.

BAGHDAD - A bomb in a minibus killed three people and wounded seven in Baghdad's southern Bayaa district, an Interior Ministry source said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb killed two people and wounded 10 in the Shorja district of central Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen wounded Hazim al-Hemedawi, head of the little-known Iraqi National Party, after ambushing his convoy. Two of his bodyguards were also hurt, an Interior Ministry source said.

NUMANIYA - Police found the body of a man in the town of Numaniya, 120 km (70 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - The Iraqi army has arrested seven "terrorists" and 52 suspected insurgents in the last 24 hours in different parts of Iraq, the Defence Ministry said.

DIWANIYA - Gunmen on Tuesday killed an Iraqi man who worked as a translator for U.S. forces, police said.
