Daniel M. Morris killed by I.E.D.

Clinton family is dealing with the death of a loved one. He was killed fighting for his country.

On Sunday, the family learned 28-year-old Army Staff Sergeant Daniel Morris died when an explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

Two others were also injured.

Morris was serving his second tour of duty in Iraq.

Morris' mother Amy was too upset to talk on camera about her son on Tuesday but had many kind words to say about him over the phone.

She says Staff Sergeant Morris had recently re-enlisted beginning that second tour of duty in September.

She says serving his country has been a life long dream and that he truly believed in what he was doing but he had other aspirations too.

His mother says Morris was actually planning on going to bible school when he got out of the service in hopes of becoming a minister.

Morris graduated from Clinton High School in 1996, and leaves behind his 10-year old daughter, parents, a brother, and a sister.

Funeral arrangements are tentatively set for this weekend but are not complete yet.

Instead of sending flowers, the family has set up a special fund for Morris' 10 year old daughter at the ORNL Federal Credit Union.
