BAGHDAD - U.S. forces killed a top leader from al Qaeda in Iraq on Tuesday, the military said. Brigadier-General Joseph Anderson, chief of staff for the Multi-National Corps-Iraq, described Abu Usama al-Tunisi as the "emir of foreign terrorists" in Iraq.

TAJI - Iraqi army soldiers and U.S. special forces detained 15 suspected militants on Thursday who were believed to be behind a rocket attack on a U.S. helicopter in February, the U.S. military said.

DIYALA - U.S. special forces killed three gunmen in Diyala province on Thursday, the military said.

MOSUL - A truck bomb wounded 20 people and destroyed an overpass in Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said. A second car bomb nearby was detonated safely.

BAGHDAD - A U.S. air raid killed at least eight people in the Al Saha neighbourhood of Doura district in southern Baghdad, police and medical sources said.

NEAR BAQUBA - The Iraqi army killed 30 suspected al Qaeda insurgents in a village southwest of Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad. One of those killed was a foreign fighter and a large cache of weapons was discovered, an Iraqi officer said.

BAIJI - U.S. forces captured a man believed to be associated with al Qaeda in Iraq and to have had a significant role in recent attacks in Baiji, 180 km (112 miles) north of Baghdad, U.S. military said.

IFACH - A roadside bomb wounded two civilians on Thursday in the town of Ifach, 33 km (20 miles) east of Diwaniya in southern Iraq, police said.

RAMADI - Policemen killed three insurgents and arrested two others who attacked a police patrol and killed one policeman in Ramadi, 110 km (70 miles) west of Baghdad, on Thursday, police said.

BAGHDAD - Eight bodies were found in different districts of Baghdad on Thursday, police said.

MOSUL - A roadside bomb killed one man and wounded another in central Mosul, on Thursday. Police said the men may have been trying to plant the bomb when it detonated.

BAGHDAD - The bodies of an Iraqi police lieutenant and his wife were found on Tuesday with gunshot wounds and signs of torture in Baghdad's Sunni district of Adhamiya, the U.S. military said.

MOSUL - Gunmen killed a former Iraqi army officer near his home in central Mosul on Thursday, police said.
