BAGHDAD - Eleven bodies were found in different districts of Baghdad in the past 24 hours, police said.

BAGHDAD - A car bomb near a Shi'ite mosque killed three people and wounded 11 near the entrance to the Sadr City district of northeastern Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - U.S. forces captured 12 Iraqis in Baghdad suspected of smuggling weapons from Iran, including one linked to Tehran's elite Qods force, the U.S. military said.

BASRA - Basra's deputy police chief was wounded when gunmen attacked his convoy in central Basra, 550 km (340 miles) southeast of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - U.S. forces killed seven suspected insurgents and detained 31 during operations targeting al Qaeda in central and northern Iraq on Monday, the U.S. military said.

KUT - Ikhlas al-Shimari, a female member of the Kut governing council, escaped unhurt from a bomb attack on her house overnight in the city of Kut, 170 km (100 miles) southeast of Baghdad, police said.

DIWANIYA - Iraqi and U.S. forces killed three suspected insurgents and wounded several others during a raid on Saturday in Diwaniya, 180 km (110 miles) south of Baghdad, the U.S. military said. The suspected commander of a militant cell and another cell member were also detained in the raid.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb wounded nine people in the Yarmouk district of western Baghdad, police said.

HILLA - An explosion at an Iraqi army base wounded 10 soldiers overnight in Hilla, 100 km (60 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb targeting a U.S. military patrol wounded three people in the Nahdha area of central Baghdad, police said.
