Graham M. McMahon dies 'from a non-combat related illness'

Army Spc. Graham M. McMahon, 22, of Corvallis, died Wednesday in Northern Iraq from a non-combat related illness.

McMahon, who enlisted in Portland three years ago, was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Stryker Brigade Combat Team at Fort Lewis, Wash. The brigade deployed to Balad, Iraq, in April, said base spokeswoman Catherine Caruso.

According to unit records, McMahon served as a combat medic in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Department of Defense awarded him a posthumous promotion to corporal.
