NEAR BAQUBA - At least 25 people were killed in a battle between Sunni Arab militants and al Qaeda in villages near Baquba early on Thursday, police said.

MANDELY - Iraqi security forces said they arrested 150 people in raids in the mixed Kurdish and Turkmen town of Mandely near the Iraqi/Iranian border in Diyala province.

BAGHDAD - A U.S. soldier was killed and four others wounded during combat operations in an area west of Baghdad on Wednesday, the U.S. military said.

MOSUL - Gunmen killed a member of the Sunni Iraqi Islamic Party along with his driver in a drive-by shooting in the northern city of Mosul, police said.

BAIJI - The final toll of a suicide fuel tanker bombing targeting Baiji police station on Wednesday was 27 killed and 79 wounded, doctor Thamir al-Kawan, head of Baiji hospital, said.

KUT - Three mortar rounds landed near Kut police directorate and killed two people and wounded six, police said. Kut is 170 km (100 miles) southeast of Baghdad.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb near a parking lot killed a man and wounded four others in New Baghdad district in eastern Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Two people were killed and four wounded by a mortar attack in northern Baghdad, police said.

MUQDADIYA - The final toll of a suicide motorbike bombing targeting a police patrol in a market in the town of Muqdadiya, 90 km (50 miles) northeast of Baghdad, was 10 killed and 31 wounded on Wednesday, police said.

BAGHDAD - The U.S. forces killed one insurgent and detained 10 others during operations in the cities of Baquba, Baiji and Mosul targeting al-Qaeda weapons and leadership networks, the U.S. military said.

BAGHDAD - Police said they found bodies of 15 people in different districts of Baghdad on Thursday.

BASRA - The British forces killed two insurgents on Wednesday when their military convoy was attacked by small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) in the southern city of Basra, 550 km (340 miles) southeast of Baghdad, the British military said.

MOSUL - The bodies of two people were found, bound and with gunshot wounds, in Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

BAQUBA - Joint Iraqi and U.S. forces arrested 40 suspected al-Qaeda members in past days in the volatile city of Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad, the Iraqi army said.
