BAGHDAD - Twenty-five bodies were found across Baghdad in the past 24 hours, police said.

BAGHDAD - Seven mortar rounds landed in the grounds of the Iraqi Islamic Party headquarters in Baghdad's Yarmouk district, killing three people and wounding five, police said.

BAGHDAD - One person was killed and another wounded by a roadside bomb attack in the Sunni Adhamiya district of northern Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen killed the director of finance and administration in the Ministry of Industry and Minerals in a drive-by shooting in central Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - A suicide bomber drove a car bomb into a police station in the northern town of Hibhib as recruits lined up to join the police force, killing 13 people, police said.

KIRKUK - Police found the bodies of five brothers, all day labourers, who had been kidnapped near al-Rashaad district, 40 km (25 miles) southwest of Kirkuk, a day earlier. A sixth brother, six or seven years old, was found nearby unharmed.

TIKRIT - U.S. soldiers discovered a mass grave on July 31 near the village of Muhbabiya in Diyala province north of Baghdad that contained 17 bodies, including those of women, children and elderly people, the U.S. military said. All were believed to be Sunnis. Villagers blamed al Qaeda militants.

MOSUL - Iraqi security forces killed three insurgents including the al Qaeda "emir" of Mosul on Wednesday, the U.S. military said.

BAGHDAD - U.S. forces detained 22 suspected insurgents including two al Qaeda "emirs" and killed four others on Tuesday and Wednesday, the U.S military said.

BAGHDAD - The Iraqi army killed 11 insurgents and arrested 35 in Iraq in the last 24 hours, the army said in a statement.

JBELA - Three people were killed and two wounded in clashes between a tribe and insurgents in the town of Jbela 65 km (40 miles) south of Baghdad. An Iraqi army patrol responding to the incident was hit by a roadside bomb that wounded two soldiers, police said.

BALAD - Six mortar bombs killed one girl and wounded five other children in Balad 80 km (50 miles) north of Baghdad, the local hospital said.

BAIJI - Three mortar bombs killed three people in a residential area in Baiji 180 km (112 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Two U.S. soldiers were killed and 10 others were wounded in an indirect fire attack on Tuesday in Iraq, the U.S. military said.

BASRA - A roadside bomb killed one U.S. soldier and wounded two others when it targeted their patrol near the southern city of Basra on Wednesday, the U.S. military said.

KIRKUK - A bomb hidden in a rubbish bag near a restaurant in central Kirkuk, 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad, wounded four people, police said.
