SAMAWA - A fourth person has been killed in clashes since Thursday in the southern city of Samawa between the Iraqi army and militiamen loyal to Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, a morgue source said. An eyewitness said sporadic fighting continued.

SAMAWA - Four Iraqi policemen killed and three civilians wounded by a roadside bomb in Samawa, police said.

HAWIJA - One Iraqi soldier killed in Hawija, 60 km (40 miles) outside the northern city of Kirkuk, police said.

KIRKUK - Three Iraqi police wounded in a drive-by shooting in central Kirkuk, 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad.

KIRKUK - A man and a woman wounded when Iraqi army fired shots to clear traffic in central Kirkuk, police said.

BAGHDAD - A U.S. soldier died of wounds received in combat operations in western Baghdad on Thursday, the military said.

BAGHDAD - A car bomb killed 17 people and wounded 25 others outside a restaurant in a Shi'ite neighbourhood in southern Baghdad on Thursday evening, police said.

HILLA - A roadside bomb killed four Iraqi soldiers in the southern Shi'ite city of Hilla on Thursday, police said.

YUSUFIYA - One Iraqi army soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in Yusufiya, 15 km (9 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

MAHMUDIYA - Two bodies were found in Mahmudiya, 30 km (20 miles) south of the capital, police said. They had been tortured and shot.

BAGHDAD - Police found 24 bodies in Baghdad on Thursday, mostly victims of roving sectarian death squads. Most had been shot dead.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen killed a police commander from the Facilities Protection Service who was responsible for protection of electricity infrastructure in southern Baghdad, police said. The commander was killed in the town of Salman Pak near Baghdad on Thursday.
