DIWANIYA - A U.S military air strike killed five Shi'ite militiamen planting a roadside bomb in Diwaniya 180 km (112 miles) south of Baghdad, the U.S military said. Local hospital and police sources said five members of the Mehdi Army militia and five civilians were killed in the air strike.

BAGHDAD - One U.S soldier was killed in a rocket attack east of Baghdad on Tuesday, the U.S military said.

FALLUJA - A suicide bomber on a bicycle wounded a policeman at a checkpoint in Falluja, west of Baghdad, police said.

MOSUL - At least two people were killed and 10 wounded by a car bomb in a crowded market in the northern city of Mosul, police said.

TAL AFAR - Four people were killed and 10 wounded by a suicide bomber targeting a wedding ceremony for a policeman in Tal Afar, 420 km (260 miles) northwest of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - U.S forces detained 19 suspected militants during raids targeting suspected al Qaeda operations in central and northern Iraq on Wednesday and Thursday, the U.S military said.
