Security Summary: June 14, 2007


Protesters in Sadr City today reacted to yesterday's bombing of the Al Askariya mosque (above) while streets are deserted elsewhere in Baghdad (left), which remains under curfew until Saturday.

BAGHDAD - Mortar bombs and rockets landed in Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone. Police said there were some casualties but no other details were immediately known. Smoke could be seen billowing into the sky.

MUSSAYAB - Four Iraqi soldiers were killed and an officer wounded in a roadside bomb attack on their patrol in Mussayab, 60 km (40 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

DIWANIYA - Gunmen killed two off-duty policemen in central Diwaniya, 180 km south of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Twenty-five bodies were found shot and tortured around Baghdad on Wednesday, police said.

MOSUL - Four bodies were recovered from different areas of Mosul, 390 km north of Baghdad, police said.

RIYADH - A suicide bomber wounded three policemen and three soldiers in the town of Riyadh, 60 km southwest of Kirkuk, police said.

ISKANDARIYA - Three Sunni Muslim mosques were attacked and burned by unidentified gunmen south of Baghdad early on Thursday, police said.

LATIFIYA - One body was found with gunshot wounds and signs of torture in Latifiya, 40 km south of Baghdad, police said.

NEAR BALAD - Gunmen killed two farmers and wounded another three near Balad, 80 km north of Baghdad, police said.
