Michael P. Pittman dies 'of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire'

An Iowa native who moved away to join the Army has been killed in Iraq.

Private First Class Michael Pittman was killed Friday in Baghdad when a roadside bomb exploded near the Humvee he was riding in.

Pittman was born in Davenport and attended high school in Rock Island, Illinois. He and his wife, Jennefer (Jennifer) moved from the Quad Cities in 2005 when he joined the Army.

The 34-year-old Pittman was a member of a Calvary Regiment based at Fort Riley, Kansas.
He and his wife have four children.

Jennefer Pittman says her husband was a selfless person who cared about everyone and loved giving to people.

She says her husband will be cremated and that a memorial service is scheduled for next week in Kansas.
