Steven Tudor laid to rest
WATERTOWN, N.Y. A 36-year-old sergeant from Fort Drum killed during his tour of duty in Iraq was buried yesterday in Watertown with military honors.
Staff Sergeant Steven R. Tudor, a member of the 10th Mountain Division, was a native of Columbus, Ohio.
He lived in Watertown since 2002 and planned to stay here at the end of his military career, according to his widow, Wanda Lopez, told the Watertown Daily Times.
About 75 people, including family, comrades and Fort Drum Commander Major General Michael Oates, attended the burial.
Members of the Westboro Baptist Church that protest military funerals announced they would attend but did not.
A group of Army wives lined the sidewalk in front of Cleveland Funeral Home bearing signs with messages like "Freedom Isn't Free" and "God Bless Our Fallen Troops."
