Coby G. Schwab dies of injuries from I.E.D.
A 25-year-old Army Reservist from Puyallup died Thursday in Ramadi, Iraq, when his armored carrier was struck by a roadside bomb explosion, the Department of Defense reported Saturday.
Staff Sgt. Coby G. Schwab died in the blast. Also killed was Spc. Kelly B. Grothe, 21, of Spokane. They were assigned to Company B of the 321st Engineer Battalion out of Hayden Lake, Idaho, the department said.
The Spokesman-Review reported that the unit was on a route-clearing mission Thursday when a bomb hit one vehicle, injuring five soldiers. A second vehicle stopped to help and was struck by another bomb, killing Schwab and Grothe.
Schwab’s Puyallup ties were unclear late Saturday. A separate Army news release said he was from Henderson, Nev.
