Security Summary: April 12, 2007

Rescuers search for survivors of the suicide bombing of Sarafiya bridge which was collapsed by the bombing in Baghdad today.

Haditha- Three civilians were killed and scores others were arrested when U.S. forces launched a search operation in Haditha city, 380 km west of Baghdad, local residents said on Thursday.

Mosul- Unknown gunmen shot and killed a policeman in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Thursday, a police source said.

Kut- A kidnapped policeman was found dead on Thursday in the southern Iraqi city of Kut, a security source said.

Kirkuk- Unknown gunmen killed an Iraqi soldier in al-Hawijah district to the west of Kirkuk city, 250 km northeast of Baghdad, a security source said on Thursday.

Kirkuk- An explosive charge went off near the motorcade of Kirkuk police command operations room's director wounding two elements of his protection force in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, a police source said on Thursday.

Karbala- Two gunmen on Thursday shot a man dead in the centre of the old city of Karbala, 108 km southwest of Baghdad, an eyewitness said.

Mosul- A policeman was killed in an attack by armed men on a bus carrying employees southwest of Mosul city, 402 km north of Baghdad, police sources said on Thursday.

Baghdad- An Iraqi lawmaker from the Kurdistan Coalition survived an attempt on his life on Thursday in Baghdad, a source from the coalition said.

Baghdad- At least ten civilians were killed and twenty six others were wounded when a booby-trapped truck went off on a major bridge in central Baghdad early Thursday, a police source said.

Kirkuk- Six civilians were killed on Thursday and 19 others, including women and children, were injured when an explosive charge was detonated near a bus carrying civilians in Northern Kirkuk, 250 km northeast of Baghdad, an official Iraqi police source said.

Baghdad- At least three lawmakers and four parliamentary employees were killed and ten others were wounded in the bombing attack that targeted the parliament’s cafeteria inside the green area in Baghdad on Thursday afternoon, security and parliamentary sources said.

Hilla- Gunmen opened fire on Thursday against the headquarters of the Sunni Islamic Party in al-Iskandariya district, north of Hilla city, injuring one of its guards, a source in Babel police department said.
