Ryan A. Bishop dies of injuries from I.E.D.

TYLER, Texas The wife of a 32-year-old soldier killed in Iraq says her husband will be remembered for his loyalty.

Specialist Ryan A- Bishop was killed Saturday in Baghdad when he was struck by a roadside bomb while on patrol.

His wife of two years, Melanie, says -- quote -- "He believed deeply in what he was doing and he just wanted to do his part."

Bishop grew up in East Texas and had been living in the Fort Worth suburb of Euless before leaving for Iraq.

Melanie Bishop, who moved to Tyler after her husband left for Iraq, said that several months ago the Starbucks where she works in Tyler sent her husband's unit 500 pounds of the popular coffee.

She says a lot of people in Tyler that go to that Starbucks would ask about him.

Inspired by a friend's military service, Ryan Bishop got in shape and joined the Army after years of working as a local land surveyor.

Bishop, a member of the tenth Mountain Division based at Fort Drum, New York, was a 1996 Tyler Junior College graduate. He was also a graduate of Marshall High School in Marshall, where he was a member of the 1990 state football championship team.
