Report: Militia groups hoping to seize Prince Harry during Iraq deployment

Second Lieutenant Harry Wales of the Household Cavalry will deploy to Iraq as a member of the 'A' Squadron of the Blues and Royals. He will be the first British royal to serve in a war zone since Prince Andrew during the Falklands war. Harry is third in line to the English throne, and it is unlikely he will serve in the front lines. The two main militias in the area he will deploy to are the Badr Brigade of Abdul Aziz al-Hakim and the Mahdi Army of Moqtada al-Sadr.

Iraqi militia groups have drawn up detailed plans to seize Prince Harry as a hostage when he arrives in Iraq next month, The Observer can reveal.

Some of the most notorious paramilitary factions in southern Iraq claim they have informants placed inside British military barracks in Iraq monitoring the third in line to the throne...

Last night an MoD spokesman said: 'We have not concealed the fact that he [Harry] is going out there and the bad guys know that he's coming, and we expect that they will consider him a high-profile scalp.'
