Marines to test new generator truck
The Marines will soon take delivery of a tactical truck whose generator can power a city block, airport or combat hospital, and do it more conveniently than today’s cumbersome trailer-mounted generators, said Oshkosh Truck marketing manager Joaquin Salas.
The prototype modified Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) truck will be delivered for testing at the Marine South Expo on Wednesday at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
“Being expeditionary and being deployed aboard amphibious ships, Marines need to move quickly and they have space constraints,” Salas said. “The current mobile power technology is a generator which weighs about 6,000 pounds, towed by a trailer behind a truck. This reduces the off-road capability of the vehicle that is towing them.”
